Sailing Department Head

Ultimate Watersports - Gunpowder Falls Sate Park, MD, United States of America

Modified full time position requires a commitment to a full week of camp instruction in a sport and one (1) afternoon of after care. Department Heads are expected to manage the safety of the campers and Counselors in their rotation and provide mentorship for Certified Counselors and Junior Counselors. Specific duties are detailed below.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age
  • Current certification from American Canoe Association (ACA), American Sailing Association (ASA), and/or US Sailing in kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, windsurfing, and/or small boat sailing
  • Current Lifeguard certification
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications
  • Previous experience with instruction of chosen sport
  • Ability to multitask including instruction, risk management, and equipment management
  • Must provide own transportation
  • Ability to move equipment in excess of 50lbs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Understanding of local weather conditions
  • Ability to mentor a Junior Camp Counselor

Overview of Duties:

  • Lead delivery and practice of nationally accredited knowledge, skills, and abilities for chosen sport(s)
  • Collaborate with Camp Manager for daily and weekly progression of each skill level
  • Assumes responsibility for all safety considerations for each rotation
  • Stage watercraft for start of daily operations
  • Rerack and lock all watercraft at the end of daily operations
  • Fit campers properly for PFDs, paddles, kayaks, and paddleboards
  • Participate in daily debrief and issue reconciliation
  • Provide additional instruction and entertainment for camp aftercare needs
  • Oversee weekly equipment safety checks for department
  • Display a constant positive attitude toward guests and staff
  • Reports to Camp Manager and General Manager
  • Salary and Benefits:
    Approximately 35 hours per week. Compensation is a set weekly rate commensurate with active certifications and experience. Payment occurs on the 15th
    and last of the month. One week of unpaid vacation is allotted between Memorial Day and Labor Day
